A record event with a number of records broken!

74 teams took part in 2023; a record number of entrants. That meant over 300 hikers and shadows. Thank you for the tremendous support and enthusiastic participation.

This year's mild conditions contributed to other records...

The quickest time for the Junior event was broken twice on the day - first with a time of 3:42, then improved on only minutes later by the eventual winners with an incredible 3:28

In the Open / Senior event, two teams managed to get full points, adding to only three teams who have achieved this previously. Meaning the application of a time-taken tie-breaker to decide the winner.

The full results are available via the link below.

Well done and thank you to everyone involved. But please note that - unbelievably - this amazing event is in jeopardy of not running next year unless we get more volunteers to come forward and help... a separate note will go out via email with more details

The Grimsdyke Hikes are fun and challenging tests of orienteering, navigation and endurance in the beautiful Chiltern Hills around the ancient and mysterious earthworks of Grim’s Dyke.

Open to Scouts, Guides and Explorers, there are one or two-day events depending on the age of the participants and the level of competition.

Test your map and compass skills, find the hidden check points, race against the clock... the hikes are as competitive as you choose, but always great fun.

The website explains everything but you can download entry forms and all the instructions from here. There's also a flyer you can to use with your troop, parents, carers and helpers.

Click the buton below...

Depending on your browser, the files may not open automatically and you may be be asked to download the files by clicking on the "in-tray" symbol. Please save the entry form in Microsoft Excel format, not Google Docs.

Please EMAIL the form back. Do NOT save to the G Drive.

Any problems, let us know and we can send you copies.

As well as being a fantastic event in its own right, many troops take the opportunity to integrate into their overall programmes.

The Grimsdyke Hikes provide a great opportunity for...

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze practice

Chief Scout Award

Hiking Activity Badge

Sponsored fund-raising

The Grimsdyke Hike highly recommend that Shadows, Hikers and Drivers download and familiarise themselves with this very useful phone app.

It can provide a precise location that is easily communicable without the need for grid reference etc.
